United Kingdom – In a bid to encourage the public to recycle its electronic devices, one of the UK’s leading mobile providers O2 has enlisted the help of designer Sean Miles to integrate old Nokia and LG phones into vintage shoes.
Known as ′Walkie Talkies′, the curious gadgets remain fully functional as the original keypad is visible on the shoe sole. The retro footwear is made from handsets sold on-line by O2 Recycle customers and comprises a Nike Air trainer, a Christian Louboutin heel, a Hunter Wellington boot and a man′s leather brogue.
′I wondered how I could make phones that people might be embarrassed to be seen with into something that would give them a new lease of life, which is what upcycling is all about,′ says Mr Miles. Having worn the shoes himself while out with friends, he says they are quite the conversation-starter.
According to the designer, he would now love to create a
series of e-scrap handbags and gloves. For more information, visit: www.o2recycle.co.uk
