Chile – Californian firm Green Technology Solutions has confirmed its backing of Chilean e-scrap recycler Chilerecicla, adding that the e-scrap sector in Latin America is witnessing ‘phenomenal growth’.
Due to ‘extremely favourable market conditions’, the American company has regarded Chile as a worthwhile investment destination ‘for a long time now’, says Paul Watson, CEO of GTSO Resources, a division of Green Technology Solutions. He argues that the country ‘has bounced back strong from the global recession’ despite having limited access to credit, preventing any of Chile’s recycling players from securing a dominant position. He declares: ‘Chile’s recycling industry is open for business.’
With funding and strategic assistance from GTSO Resources, Chilerecicla could potentially emerge as ‘the leader of the pack in a nation where demand for e-waste recycling is growing at an unbelievable rate’ – partly due to fewer e-scrap management regulations. Industry experts agree, pointing out that Chile has the notable advantage of ‘easy access to cheap waste’ from within the country as well as from neighbouring countries including Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru.
Chilerecicla was founded in 2009 and operates from a facility in the city of Chillan. Its material is derived from a wide range of sources – from regular household electronics to aerospace instrumentation.
