At the International Electronics Recycling Congress in Valencia, Spain, a moment of silence was observed for the victims and relatives of the train accident.

On Sunday a high-speed train derailed near Córdoba in the south of the country. Forty-five people were killed, dozens of injured passengers are still being treated in hospitals.

‘Our hearts are with the families impacted by this tragedy,’ said IERC steering committee chair Jean Cox-Kearns in her welcome speech. ‘It is such a big death toll and the numbers continue to climb.’

Some 260 e-scrap recyclers, commodity traders, and technology providers have gathered in Valencia to discuss issues challenging the global electronics recycling industry.
