Hägglunds launches Thunder high-torque direct drives

Hägglunds has introduced the Thunder range, a permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motor solution that expands its direct drive portfolio.

Hägglunds Thunder enables fully electric, frequency-controlled drives from low to megawatt power levels. The range delivers nominal torque up to 200 kNm and variable speeds from 30 to 300 rpm. Efficiency remains high across the full speed range.

Heavy-duty applications

‘PM synchronous motors have untapped potential in heavy-duty industrial applications,’ says Tor Jensen, vp of Hägglunds global sales, stressing that Thunder complements the existing electrohydraulic range while addressing specific customer challenges.

‘Customers needing very high torque at near-zero speeds will prefer electrohydraulic solutions,’ adds project manager Uno Sundelin. ‘But where torque and speed match, Thunder supplies direct drive solutions up to 4 300 kW.’

Battling unpredictability

The system also offers robust protection, sustaining 200% overload for up to 60 seconds, ensuring reliability in unpredictable industrial conditions.

Hägglunds says the new range opens up applications where high torque, variable speed and fully electric operation are essential, maintaining the brand’s reputation for dependable drives.
