Global – In partnership with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the Coca-Cola Company is working to advance its sustainability stewardship by pursuing a recycling and recovery rate of 75% for its bottles and cans.
Coca-Cola will work with the beverage industry and local organisations to establish ‘baseline information’ in order to improve recovery and recycling in developing markets. It also intends to use recycled materials and renewable content for its packaging, while at the same time reducing the amount of packaging used to create its products. By 2020, for instance, the two partners anticipate producing plastic bottles that contain 30% plant-based material.
‘As we face a resource-stressed world with growing global demands on food and water, we must seek solutions that drive mutual benefit for business, communities and nature,’ states Muhtar Kent, chairman and ceo of Coca-Cola. ‘WWF’s expertise will be instrumental in reaching our environmental performance goals – some of which they help us set.’
WWF president and ceo Carter Roberts adds: ‘Our work with Coca-Cola has proven that collaboration can amplify and accelerate the impact we need.’
