Global – The London Metal Exchange (LME) and Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing Ltd (HKEx), both part of the HKEx Group, have appointed Garry Jones as the LME’s new chief executive.

Succeeding Martin Abbott, Jones will take up his new role in September, when he will also become HKEx’s co-head of global markets and a member of HKEx’s management committee.

Jones has over 30 years’ experience of exchanges and financial services, spending his career in trading and business management in the UK and USA – most recently as ceo of leading global exchange NYSE LIFFE.

‘Garry has a wealth of international experience of exchanges, markets and trading, and is very familiar with UK rules and regulations,’ comments LME chairman Sir Brian Bender. ‘We are confident that under Garry’s leadership, the continued success of the LME is assured.’
