Europe – The Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI) has called on all parties involved in trade with paper and board for recycling to prepare for the introduction of the updated EN 643 quality standard. Last week, the European Committee for Standardization voted in favour of the revision.
‘Although this material has a waste status legally, it is important to push quality management through the whole supply chain,’ stresses Jori Ringman-Beck, CEPI’s recycling and environment director.
For a number of years, CEPI has been advocating responsible sourcing and quality management of paper for recycling and is now organising an information session on EN 643 during the European Paper Week to be held in Brussels later this month.
Throughout the meeting, CEPI experts will describe the detailed changes to the standard; in addition, CEPI is preparing a guidance document that explains the differences in a printed pocket-size format between the new document and the old EN 643 list of standard grades of recovered paper and board.
