Chicago-based LRS has won Recycling Facility of the Year award in the recent honours announced by the National Waste and Recycling Association (NWRA).
LRS is the fifth-largest independent provider of recycling, waste management and related services in the United States.
The prestigious award for the LRS Exchange Material Recovery Facility recognises the facility’s advancements in sustainability, innovation and operational efficiency.
Investment
The LRS Exchange, located in the Stockyards area of Chicago, represents a US$ 50 million (EUR 46 million) investment. Opened in 2023, it is designed to divert 450 tonnes of recyclables every day. The current processing capacity of 25 tonnes per hour is set to expand to 35 tonnes per hour.
Sorting technology includes a CP auger screen, advanced screening equipment, six MSS optical sorters and three Fire Rover units.
LRS has hosted more than 800 visitors to see the facility, including university professors and students, package designers, government leaders, businesses and community groups.
