New tyre facility claimed to be world’s largest

Denmark – Danish company Genan has opened a recycling and rubber plant in the USA, claimed to be the largest facility of its kind in the world.

The US$ 140 million plant in Houston, Texas, has the capacity to handle up to 10 million tyres per year. Tyre components are separated ready for resale to scrap firms and for use in the manufacture of flooring, turf and asphalt, as well as in injection moulding.

The site will become the US headquarters and is part of Genan′s strategy to secure 10% of America′s recycled tyre market. Four additional expansions are to follow in the next couple of years, the company has stated.
