Rumpke plant to serve as ‘template’

United States – US-based Rumpke Recycling has announced an investment of US$ 2.5 million (Euro 1.8 million) in upgrading its facility at Dayton in Ohio, most notably its equipment.

A new sorting system will replace ′ageing equipment′ to improve the plant′s efficiency. The line will sort glass and cardboard from over 500 tonnes of material brought into the plant daily, Rumpke says. Metals, paper and plastics will be sent to the company′s new Cincinnati plant for further sorting and processing while cardboard will be directed to manufacturers.

In a bid to provide higher-quality glass cullet, Rumpke is also installing a dust collection system and the glass is to receive further treatment on-site.

′This investment will allow us to recycle more efficiently, ultimately leading to a larger volume of recycling,′ comments Rumpke′s regional vice president Mike Bramkamp. He hopes that the Dayton plant will ′serve as a template for our other regional facilities′ as the recycler remains committed to developing methods to boost its recycling volumes.
