Recylex ‘more selective’ in its purchases for recycling

Europe – Given the current level of scrap battery prices, the Recylex group ‘continues to be more selective in its purchases of materials for recycling’, it has revealed in its latest financial review.

Operating from a number of production sites in France, Germany and Belgium, Recylex specialises in lead and plastics recycling from vehicle and industrial batteries. It also recycles zinc from particles resulting from electric steel plates, and produces zinc oxides and special metals for the electronics industry.

Its consolidated sales in the first half of 2014 amounted to Euro 220.5 million for an increase of 9% over the same period last year. At Euro 8.3 million, Recylex almost halved its operating loss when compared to the first half of 2013.

′In the scrap zinc recycling sector (production of zinc oxides),′ Recylex notes, ′Norzinco GmbH′s business should get a boost (in the remainder of the year) from the current strength of the chemicals industry, especially in Germany, albeit in a challenging environment for purchases of materials for recycling.′

Also in the second half of 2014, the performance of Harz-Metall GmbH and Recytech SA in recycling electric arc furnace dust is expected to improve ′provided that the availability of materials for recycling remains comparable to the current situation′.
