Befesa has opened a new steel dust recycling factory in central China’s Henan Province. A total of EUR 47.3 million has been invested in the venture.
Befesa started construction in Changge City, Xuchang, in 2019 and estimates the facility has recovered 110 000 tonnes of steelmaking dust per year. Some 40 000 tonnes of zinc oxide are expected to be extracted annually with a total value of almost EUR 55 million.
Befesa reports its operations recycled 1.8 million tonnes of residues in 2022 across Asia, the US and Europe.
It underlines a focus on sustainability, saying that the goal is to ‘use resources to their greatest extent’. Switching to a circular economy on a global scale is expected to yield EUR 591 billion in annual savings.
