Recycler Sean Daoud honoured for leadership, initiative and vision

The US Insitute of Scrap Recycling Industries has named metal recycler Sean Daoud as its 2023 Young Executive of the Year and praised him as an entrepreneur who always puts the industry first in his leadership and professional decisions.

‘Sean exemplifies the qualities of the Young Executive of the Year Award,’ says ISRI President Robin Wiener. ‘ISRI is pleased to present this important award to Sean in recognition of his outstanding leadership, initiative, and vision for the recycled materials industry of tomorrow.’

Daoud is a second-generation recycler who is vice president, treasurer and shareholder of family business PNW Metal Recycling which has facilities at eight locations in Oregon and Washington state. He is currently an ISRI director-at-large.

‘It is very humbling to receive this award and to be in the ranks of prior recipients,’ says Daoud. ‘ISRI has given me so many opportunities to learn and grow professionally, and personally, via leadership roles and networking with other peers in the industry. ISRI’s leadership and many of its members have become family, friends, and mentors, which makes the work even more meaningful and enjoyable.’

Daoud has served on several non-profit boards, including the PNW Playworks board where he helped form the Emerging Leaders Board. He is currently undertaking a supporting role to the Oregon Alzheimer’s Association Board.

ISRI’s Young Executive of the Year Award was created to promote the accomplishments of successful, young professionals in the recycling industry. The award will be presented as part of this year’s ISRI convention in Nashville in April.

  • Furthermore, creating legal certainty for recycled content will also help to level the playing field for companies that prioritize sustainability, as they will not be at a disadvantage compared to those who continue to rely on virgin plastics. However, it is crucial that any regulations put in place are well-designed and take into account the complexities of the plastics supply chain, to ensure that they are effective and feasible to implement.
