Global – The Brussels-based World Steel Association (WSA) has published its 2014 Steel Statistical Yearbook, which presents a cross-section of steel industry facts and figures.
For the period from 2004 to 2013, it contains comprehensive statistics on crude steel production by country and process, steel production by product, steel trade by product, apparent steel use, and production of pig iron and direct reduced iron. It also includes data on production and trade of iron ore, and trade of scrap over the same 10-year period.
It states that the European Union produced 166 208 TMT in 2013; with North America producing 118 942; Africa producing 16 078; the Middle East producing 26 967; and Asia producing 1 122.680 TMT last year.
The statistics were collected from WSA members (which represent roughly 85% of world steel production) and various other international organisations. A PDF copy of the yearbook can be downloaded for free from the WSA website (click here: www.bit.ly/WSAyearbook) while printed copies can be ordered from the book shop.
