Belgium – Quality recycling and sorting provided the focal point for the annual meeting of Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE), which took place last week in Brussels and attracted more than 200 participants.
′2015 will be an important legislative year for unlocking the potential of plastics recycling,′ said PRE president Ton Emans. ′Quality is a key enabler at all the product stages. Firstly, a product′s recyclability must be improved via its eco-conception. Secondly, after decades of plastics waste management seeing low recycling quality, collection and quality sorting must now be harmonised and standardised across Europe. Finally, the plastics recyclers must also continue producing quality recyclates and standardise their operations in order to serve the plastics markets in Europe.′
The EU Circular Economy package ′will boost green jobs in Europe and stimulate innovation in the plastics industry′, he added. PRE and Crain Communications will launch the first European Plastics Recycling Show in Brussels on November 25-26 next year. It is intended that the event will bring together the entire value chain to expose the potential in plastics recycling.
The full article about the PrEU meeting will be featured in the December issue of Recycling International.
