World crude steel production in August, reported by the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 150.6 million tonnes (Mt) in August 2022, 3% down compared to August 2021.
Turkey recorded the largest fall of 21% while Iran’s production jumped by nearly two-thirds compared to the same month last year.
Of the top ten countries, China produced 83.9 Mt, up 0.5% on August 2021. India supplied 10.2 Mt (+1.2%) and Japan produced 7.3 Mt (-7.4%).
The United States total was 7.0 Mt, (-7.1%). Russia is estimated to have produced 5.9 Mt (-5.5%); South Korea’s estimate was 6.1 Mt (-0.4%); Germany produced 2.9 Mt (-2.3%).
Turkey’s total was 2.8 Mt, (-21.0%); Brazil’s total was 2.8 Mt (-11.3%). Iran produced 2.1 Mt, a rise of 64.7%, 7.8% up for the year to date.
