United Kingdom – UK-based metals recycler EMR has announced that Colin Iles has stepped down as its executive director and chairman. This decision forms part of the group’s succession process designed to transfer executive management and governance to ‘a new generation of managers’.
Iles will remain as a non-executive director, allowing him to maintain his involvement with EMR and to pursue some personal interests. His career spans 28 years and various roles, including finance director, group ceo, US ceo and chairman. The company has started a process to recruit a new chairman.
Iles has seen EMR grow ‘from a small, regional company with four sites to a global leader in the recycling industry with around 170’. And under the management of group chief executive Chris Sheppard, the team has taken EMR forward with ‘industry-leading investments’ in plastics recycling and waste to energy, he points out.
The group generates around 10 million tonnes per year of recycled raw material sales.
