Global – Aluminium producer and recycler Novelis has won a European award for its closed-loop car production initiative with Jaguar Land Rover. The REALCAR (REcycled ALuminium CAR) project has emerged victorious in the automotive and transportation category of the 2016 aluminium trade fair awards in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The closed-loop programme was launched by Jaguar Land Rover in 2008. In 2015, the car manufacturer recovered more than 45 000 tonnes of aluminium scrap. As part of the project, Novelis developed a new aluminium alloy containing up to 75% recycled content while ‘retaining the strength, durability and formability required by automotive engineers’.

‘This prize is a testament to the skills and talent of our people, who are constantly working to develop alloys, innovative applications and revolutionary designs that leverage the unique properties of rolled aluminium,’ comments Emilio Braghi, president of Novelis Europe.
