Drop in new car sales a threat for ELV recycling in Japan

Asia – Japanese car recycler Japan Automotive Recyclers Alliance (JARA) has seen ELV acquisition climb almost 40% to 19 300 units in the January ‘€“ October 2016 period, thanks to what the company describes as ‘tightened relationships’ with its supply sources such as insurance companies and used car dealers.

For the whole year 2016, some 25 000 units have been taken in.

At the same time, in general, ELV generation in Japan is likely to decline in the mid-to-long-term due to sluggish new car sales and lengthening usage, it is stressed by JARA.

In Japan, roughly five million cars reach their end of life status each year.
