Coolrec plant to help ‘complete circle of plastics recycling’

Netherlands – Electronics recycler Coolrec of the Netherlands has opened a new facility for the production of plastic pellets derived from e-scrap. Located in Emmen in the north of the country, Coolrec Plastics Compounding is claimed to be important to the company’s push towards ‘completing the circle of plastics recycling’.

Plastic pellets are produced from scrapped electronic appliances offered to Coolrec by sources including the Dutch Wecycle system. Some 10 000 tonnes of pellets are expected to be produced every year.

‘Coolrec Plastics Compounding is the perfect next step for our operations at Coolrec PHB in Waalwijk,’ comments the company’s managing director Arjen Wittekoek. ‘In Waalwijk, all the plastic flows derived from electrical and electronic devices are recycled into high-value raw materials before going to Emmen. There, we have the technology to refine the specification of these materials even further, convert them into pellets and finally offer them to manufacturers of consumer goods.’

Jan Vlak, managing director of the Wecycle collection programme, adds: ‘Both consumers and our partners in the collection process – local authorities and shopping outlets – can count on the fact that collected items are recycled in the best way possible, and Coolrec’s high-value plastic recycling practice is proof of that.’

Coolrec Plastics Compounding arose from the takeover of Inverko Compounding and includes a range of processing lines and silos as well as a laboratory and R&D facilities.
