Funds on offer to innovators creating ‘next-generation’ wearables

Global – WEAR Sustain is launching its second and final competition call-out, offering total funding of Euro 2.4 million (US$ 2.8 million) to help teams of technologists and designers to develop the ‘€˜next generation’€™ of wearables – smart or electronic textiles that are sustainable as well as socially responsible.

The teams will be able to pitch their ideas online before a deadline of January 15 next year, with Euro 50 000 in awards available to each of the 26 selected projects.

WEAR Sustain will organise launch information events across Europe as well as online webinars to support those interested in making applications.

Twenty-two projects were chosen to benefit from the initial round of funding following the competition’s open call in May. Results from these projects will be revealed next spring.

WEAR Sustain is a collaboration between seven organisations across Europe, including the UK-based Queen Mary University of London and University for the Creative Arts.
