Europe’s tyre recycling specialists unite

The European Recycling Industries’ Confederation (EuRIC) has partnered-up with the European Tyre Recycling Association (ETRA) to further strengthen the representation of the interests of tyre recyclers all over Europe.

For ETRA, the recognised representative of the tyre recycling industry at European level, this partnership with EuRIC will enable the expansion of the scope of its monitoring, technical assessment and advocacy on all issues related to tyre recycling. Roughly 95% of all used tyres in Europe were collected for recycling in 2016.

Emmanuel Katrakis, secretary general of EuRIC, comments: ‘Our partnership is the recognition of a fruitful cooperation initiated two years ago to defend the mutual interests of recyclers across different material streams. We look forward to further enhance our cooperation with ETRA.’

25th anniversary

Dr. Ettore Musacchi and Dr. Valerie Shulman (ETRA president and secretary general) note that this year marks the 25th edition of the association’s tyres recycling conference. Recycling best practices were presented to more than 150 delegates at the three-day event in Brussels last month.

Future applications and new ‘mainstream’ markets were core topics at the event and were discussed by a panel of industry experts. Road construction and sports (flooring) were once again hailed major markets for recycled rubber from tyres.
