New process from recycler Sigmatex

United Kingdom – Sigmatex, a UK company that develops and manufactures carbon fibre textiles for composite applications, has announced the launch of novel production process based on ‘€˜high-speed weaving principles’€™, named sigmaST.

‘Through the utilisation of a new production process, sigmaST offers exceptionally high-quality, near-zero crimp spread tow fabrics without the drawback of low output rates often associated with current tape woven products,’ says Chris McHugh, Sigmatex’s technical manager. The sigmaST spread tow innovation covers ‘a number of exciting product ranges’ due this year.

McHugh adds: ‘This development will allow our partners to utilise the proven benefits of ultra-lightweight composite materials.’ Sigmatex also produces sigmaRF, a co-mingled thermoplastic composite material based on a recycled/reclaimed carbon fibre and thermoplastic PET matrix.
