One of the powerful pieces of recycling technology on show at the Pollutec expo was the Hammel Recyclingtechnik’s Red Giant primary shredder. The German supplier is especially proud of its new discharge conveyor.
The Lyon event showcased the 950 DK Red Giant which has an ‘enormous’ discharge height of 5m allowing for better storage of material after shredding. ‘But this innovation is just one of many,’ the German tech specialist says.
The shredder features a CAT C18 760 hp engine so it can tackle a wide variety of feedstocks. This includes railway sleepers, paper (both at 70 tonnes per hour), household waste (200 tonnes per hour), construction & demolition waste (150 tonnes per hour), white goods (35 tonnes per hour), car bodies (25 tonnes per hour), and engine blocks (15 tonnes per hour).
Red Giant features Hammel’s latest hydraulic system, enabling operators to achieve a much higher nominal torque on the shafts compared to previous machines. The engine speed has also been reduced to 1 800 rpm to achieve a ‘huge’ reduction in noise.
Hammel, which has been in business for 22 years, prides itself on its ‘easy-to-use’ control technology. This means that even a big machine such as the 950 DK Red Giant has shaft speeds and reversing times that can readily be altered whenever needed.
Visitors were ‘very excited’ by the new design, Hammel concluded after the week-long expo. The German supplier said it had a ‘great’ IFAT trade show and was again busy at the Pollutec show. The French event was seen as a ‘great success’ that yielded a steady stream of inquiries and inspiring discussions with new and existing clients.
