Forrec leads way in MSW and WEEE processing solutions

In the treatment of solid municipal and industrial waste, Italian company Forrec is an international player with a track record of finding effective solutions to its clients’ needs thanks to the combination of its long experience in the sector and the technical know-how provided by the company’s research and development team.

Always aiming to find smart solutions to help preserve the environment, Forrec’s principal points of focus can be summarised by words prefixed with the letters ‘Re’.  As well as REcycling, the company’s specific area of expertise, there is the RElationship that Forrec looks to establish with clients in order to achieve that essential sharing of experiences and needs so as to enable expectations to be met in terms of reliability, performance and management costs.

The end result is then a ‘Made in Italy’ solution that enshrines the know-how of specialists who have been part of the environmental dynamic for decades. Forrec also conducts continuous REsearch with support from a technical office comprising nine engineers, technology partners and a commitment to remain constantly up-to-date with standards and market trends.

Then there is the REalisation of completely tailor-made machines and systems that demonstrate flexibility and attention to the detail of the customer’s needs while taking account of the knowledge and experience of our clients in the various sectors.

Forrec offers 60 different machines and turnkey systems for any type of solid municipal and industrial waste. It is a REactive company, backed by teams at the client’s premises, as well as at call centres and spare parts warehouses, providing remote assistance, response in emergencies and scheduled maintenance.

Managing MSW

Many horizons have been explored and many goals have been achieved, especially in the last two years during which the company has implemented some ambitious projects in the field of, for example, the treatment of municipal solid waste, or MSW.

MSW requires particular management in terms of selection or preparation for combustion. Forrec has designed a line capable of reducing these preparation phases, guaranteeing a quality output with a primary shredder (FR multi-crusher) and a screening machine, avoiding the secondary grinding that is the cause of high management costs and constant maintenance because of the wearing characteristics of the product.

In addition to the high-performance FR multi-crusher, Forrec has developed a screen in which all the components in contact with the waste are made of anti-wear steel and are tempered to minimise maintenance costs, all this while ensuring perfect screening, high levels of production and avoidance of problems typically associated with disk screens such as the twisting of long materials around the shafts.

The solution conceived and proposed by Forrec has met with interest from the Mexican and South East Asian markets where large groups have recognised the real benefits of emptying landfills in a bid to achieve the long-term goal of ‘zero waste’ through ensuring waste is exploited to the maximum and becomes an important resource for the planet.

Refrigerator processing

In recent years, two major French companies decided that Forrec’s refrigerator processing technology and experience were exactly what they needed to develop their own plants which, in dealing with 120 refrigerators per hour, now among the largest in the world.

A key feature of these lines involves the handling of the extracted gas. The first plant uses a sophisticated and innovative onsite gas thermo-destruction system. The second plant, in operation since May 2018, applies the tried-and-tested cryogenic (nitrogen) system currently used in several Forrec plants around the world.

Forrec continues to lead the way in the waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) sector, especially the refrigeration segment. It also provides air-conditioning, water heater, and boiler waste disposal via a unique process that only Forrec plants provide.

Such cutting-edge solutions stem from continuous technological upgrading and flexibility that ensures close customer support during project development and implementation. In parallel to the design of complete lines, the construction of single, stand-alone machines remains Forrec’s core business.

Impressive results with X3000M

Another popular recycling solution by Forrec is the X3000M single-shaft shredder, designed to process and treat solid waste effectively even when highly dense. It can be used on a vast range of materials – plastics, wood, paper and MSW – and has a capacity of up to 5 tons per hour with a 30 mm grating.

The shredder incorporates several key technical features, such as a front hatch for easier access; independent hydraulic rams, each with its own hydraulic control unit; spiral lateral seals to ensure safer processing; and a more ergonomic structure to make maintenance easier.

The drive system on the X3000M also offers numerous advantages, the most important being the incorporation of a chain reducer rather than a gear-type one, thereby solving the problem of vibration-induced chain breakage while ensuring greater safety.

Forrec’s range of products is still evolving. A couple of years ago, the company added the hammer mill to its technologies, successfully including it within its WEEE treatment plants for electric motors and ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

Research and development are a constant at Forrec, with a skilled and dedicated team highly attuned to the different market demands. With its products attracting customer interest all around the world, there is much more on the horizon for this relatively young but dynamic company that is always ready for new challenges.
