Plastics and tyre recycling ventures in Abu Dhabi

United Arab Emirates – The Centre of Waste Management-Abu Dhabi has officially opened recycling plants for plastics and tyres which, according to one of its officials, are equipped with latest technology for the economic extraction of viable products for different industrial uses.

The US$ 19 million plastics recycling factory is located next to the existing municipal solid waste sorting station and composting plant at Al Ain. With two production lines, each having a capacity of 25 tonnes per day, it has been designed such that two more lines can be added in the future to double the recycling capacity.

According to Reinhard Goeschl, General Manager of system supplier Emirates Environmental Technology, the Emirates Factory for Plastic Recycling is the largest of its kind in the UAE. The facility will process plastic recovered by the sorting station from mixed waste collected from households, business establishments and other organisations in the Al Ain area.

‘By diverting material from landfill and recycling waste materials on one site, the negative environmental impacts of transportation are minimised,’ comments Mr Goeschl.
