Site confirmed for MBA Polymers’ UK plant

United States / United Kingdom – Plastics recycling company MBA Polymers and leading scrap processor European Metal Recycling Ltd (EMR) have announced that their new joint venture facility will be located at Worksop in central England.
According to the US plastics specialist, the site will accommodate a plastic processing facility with a capacity of 80 000 tonnes per year while its central location will be ideal for servicing customers throughout the UK and greater Europe.

The new facility will use the combined technologies and resources of MBA and EMR to provide recycled plastics to the UK and European automotive and durable goods markets. The company will process shredder residues upgraded by EMR from its UK operations using MBA’s process to recover, separate and purify high-value plastics from this complex feed. The process uses only a fraction of the energy required to produce resin from petrochemicals.

Michael Biddle, MBA’€™s founder and President, notes: ‘With this expansion, we are furthering our companys goal of providing high-performance sustainable plastics on a global scale so that manufacturers can meet the consumer imperative for greater sustainability and environmental responsibility.

And David Ireland, EMR’€™s Director of Technical Services, says: We can now move quickly to complete this project and start recovering plastic from shredder waste in early 2010. This is an important development in EMRs goal of eliminating waste from our shredder operations. The new initiative has received a £1 million regional government award and is expected to create 100 jobs.
