IRG partners with United Resource Recovery Corp.

United States – New York-based GreenSteel has sold membership interests in its affiliate International Recycling Group (IRG) to fellow US recycler United Resource Recovery Corporation (URRC). However, the specific terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.

The partnership with URRC – described as a pioneer in the recycling of silver-bearing films and post-consumer PET in the USA – provides IRG with access to URRC’s proprietary UnPET food-grade PET recycling technology. This, in turn, will allow IRG to accommodate millions of pounds of sorted rPET it expects to process at its future PolyCoke facilities worldwide.

At present, its PolyCoke project is targeting 100% utilisation by sourcing plastic scrap that cannot be economically recycled and would otherwise enter landfill. Ultimately, this should result in a reducing agent for the steel industry.
