Europe – The European Association of Plastics Recycling and Recovery Organizations (EPRO) has launched its fifth ‘Best recycled plastic product’ competition aimed at encouraging and rewarding innovation. Companies interested in taking part should submit their entry before September 20 this year.
In order to qualify for the competition, the product must be made in Europe and should contain 50% or more post-consumer/post-industrial plastics. In addition, at least one unit of the product must have been sold and it should have entered the market in 2010 or later. ‘Since its launch in 2009, the competition has witnessed a growing number of entries and an increased range of applications for recycled plastic,’ EPRO states.
The competition is supported by PlasticsEurope, EUPR, EUPC and ACR + which, together with EPRO representatives, will make up the judging panel. The finalists and this year’s winners in the business-to-business and consumer product categories will be announced at the IdentiPlast 2013 congress to be held in Paris on November 28-29.
‘Improved collection schemes, plastic packaging design, advances in sorting technology together with a greater range of reprocessing opportunities and applications means that the need to send many plastics to landfill is gradually decreasing,’ notes EPRO. It is essential to ensure that consumers and industry ‘recognise this progression and continue to sort and collect this material for recycling’.
