UK – UK-based plastics recycler Closed Loop Recycling has received backing from Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg regarding its major expansion plans.
The company has been given the green light to double capacity at its London plant through an investment programme valued at £12 million (US$ 18.75 million).
The financial injection will enable Closed Loop to create the ‘most advanced plastics purification facility in whole of the UK’ with an annual capacity of almost 85 000 tonnes, it says. Construction is slated to start by 2013; upon completion, the plant will be able to increase food-grade HDPE output as well as boast improved sorting facilities and enhanced economies of scale.
UK Trade and Investment Minister Lord Green comments: ‘I congratulate Closed Loop Recycling on its success in plastics purification and encouraging recycling – especially during the Olympics. I warmly welcome its expansion plans, which are an excellent reflection of the strength of the UK market for low-carbon and environmental goods and services.’
