Brazil/Germany – Mauser NCG (National Container Group), the reconditioning and recycling arm of the German industrial packaging group, has opened a new factory alongside its existing NCG Tankpool reprocessing plant in Taubaté, Brazil. The company will thus be able to offer full recycling services to its customers in the São Paulo region.
The new Tankpool Repel facility is designed to produce post-consumer resin (PCR) for use in new packaging. Equipment relocated from the neighbouring state of Barra do Pirai will be refurbished and will deploy a more advanced technology to reprocess all types of used HDPE industrial packaging from 0.5 litre tubs to 1000 litre intermediate bulk containers.
Mauser will use the pelletised PCR at its other Brazilian production sites to produce jerrycans, IBC accessories, plastic drums and inner layers for drums. Trial runs at the new plant began on 5 September.
‘By recycling several types of HDPE packaging, our new unit will allow us to expand our Total Recollect strategy to all our customers,’ said Ricardo Goldenberg, Director of NCG Tankpool.
‘Moreover, this project is aligned with the National Policy on Solid Waste (PNRS) which includes the improvement of recycling activities and proper waste disposal in Brazil. The new plant enables our customers to act in a more sustainable way.’
