Adidas: ocean plastics to be used in all products by 2024

Global – Adidas sold 1 million pairs of shoes made from recycled plastic last year, according to the company’€™s ceo Kasper Rorsted. And of the 450 million pairs of shoes sold across the globe, Adidas believes recycled sneakers will account for no less than 5 million in 2018.

The German sportswear giant has also revealed that it wants to use repurposed ocean plastic in all of its products by 2024.

Adidas kicked off its partnership with plastic waste interest group Parley for the Oceans back in 2016 and significant progress has been made since then, according to Rorsted.

The organisation first collects discarded plastics from beaches and marinas; the material is then converted into chips prior to transformation into a yarn that is employed in various consumer products.
