DS Smith buys paper recycler Middleton

United Kingdom – European packaging giant DS Smith has taken over the recycling division of Middleton Paper, which is based near the UK’s second city of Birmingham.Peter McGuinness, chief executive of DS Smith’s recycling division, comments: ‘The Birmingham region is a key industrial and commercial area and the purchase of Middleton Recycling will allow us to target material and grow our presence here.’

Middleton Paper currently generates some 9000 tonnes of fibre per year and deals in a wide range of paper and cardboard grades. The company has been established for 38 years and forms part of the Middleton Group. Middleton Paper remains an independent merchant and converter.

With the recovery of 5.4 million tonnes of paper and packaging for recycling every year and revenues exceeding Euro 5 billion, DS Smith is one of the largest integrated paper and packaging companies in the UK and the second largest packaging company in Europe.
