Global – Leading aluminium recycler Novelis is to supply aluminium sheet for the recently-launched Jaguar XE. This latest addition to the Jaguar line-up is claimed to be the first vehicle in the mid-size segment to feature an aluminium-intensive body structure.

Engineers at Novelis have developed aluminium sheet in order to produce ′the lightest, stiffest and most aerodynamic Jaguar sedan ever′, it is claimed. The car′s design features Novelis′ Advanz 6000-series alloys developed specifically for automotive skin sheet and structural applications. Furthermore, the company says that the XE’s ′strong and light′ construction contributes to fuel efficiency gains and reduced emissions.

Since 2011, Novelis has invested more than US$ 550 million worldwide in order to triple its automotive sheet capacity to 900 000 tonnes by 2015. The company forecasts global demand for aluminium automotive sheet will grow by ′approximately 30% each year through the end of the decade′.
