Germany – The Aurubis supervisory board has appointed Peter Willbrandt as Dr Bernd Drouven’s successor as Chief Executive Officer with effect from January 1 next year.
The current CEO says: ‘There could not have been a better choice. Peter Willbrandt stands for continuity and for carrying on the successful expansion strategy of the past several years. His many years of experience in the group and his achievements in successfully implementing our growth projects are an excellent basis for his new position.’
According to the world’s largest copper recycler, Mr Willbrandt will continue his current duties as executive board member in charge of primary copper production.
The 49-year-old studied metallurgy at the Technical University Clausthal Zellerfeld before starting at Aurubis (then Norddeutsche Affinerie) in Hamburg in 1988 as Plant Assistant in the primary smelter. He was appointed Production Manager there in 1993 and was put in charge of the Metallurgy Division in 2001. He has been head of primary copper production since 2004 and became a full member of the executive board four years later.
