PLASTICS SPECIAL
new products and consists mostly of
polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene
(PE).’
RECIRCULATIOIN GUARANTEED
The resulting product is suited to
injection moulding applications. Omni
Polymers has customers across several
different manufacturing industries and
the product applications vary.
Common examples include industrial
packaging and internal logistics prod-
ucts that support the automotive
industry. Tapper: ‘What’s more, the
granules can be recycled at the end of
the product life, so the plastic recircu-
lates within the manufacturing indus-
try.’
HIGH DEMAND, MORE CAPACITY
The timing of Omni Polymers’ start up
could not have been better, according
to Tapper. ‘This year’s production vol-
umes have sold out and we’re now
selling 2023 planned production vol-
umes. Demand for our recycling pro-
cesses and recycled material is high
and not only in Sweden as we’ve also
seen great interest from parties in
Norway and Germany.’
The plant is currently authorised to
receive 10 000 tonnes of incoming
plastics on an annual basis. Next sum-
mer, the permit will be extended to 30
000 tonnes. The facility’s washing and
sorting process can process over five
tonnes of packaging plastic per hour.
The two extrusion lines have a capaci-
ty to produce 2-3 tonnes of granules
per hour. In the first year, the plant is
expected to produce 15 000 tonnes of
polyolefin granules. Thereafter, the
annual capacity will be 20 000 tonnes.
80% RECYCLING RATE
The production line is designed for
high-capacity efficient recycling. The
goal is a recycling rate of 80% of
incoming plastic. Production rejects
are mostly food scraps, fibres from
packaging labels and heavier rigid
plastics that have high density rates.
These heavier plastics will be recycled
by external partners, says the compa-
ny.
