es above US$ 10 000 were unjustified.
Scrap prices followed suit with bright
copper wire sold for US$ 8 701 at its
peak, chopped copper wire scrap was
traded in the same range and
chopped wire scrap of the second
quality was US$ 8 437. Heavy copper
scrap was worth US$ 8015 and Brass
scrap fetched US$ 5 220. Non-alloyed
bright wire scrap I traded at US$ 8
216.
ALUMINIUM
Three-month quotations on the LME
were last above US$ 2 490 per tonne
while visible stocks in the licensed
warehouses were recently only 392
275 tonnes for high grade goods and
2 060 tonnes for alloy. Outside the
LME, alloy 226 fetched around US$ 3
647, alloy 231 was at US$ 3 732, and
alloy 311 was around US$ 3 750.
Wire scrap last cost US$ 2 814, extru-
sion scrap fetched around US$ 2 857.
New low copper aluminium alloy
sheet scrap averaged US$ 2 551,
mixed cast scrap with iron attach-
ments was US$ 1 686. Mixed turnings
were around US$ 1 296.
LEAD
London lead prices fell below the US$
2 000 per tonne mark and were last
listed at around only US$ 1 990. LME
stocks were 39 600 tonnes. Off the
exchange, prompt new soft lead trad-
ed at around US$ 2 298. Soft lead
scrap prices fell to US$ 1 855.
ZINC
Zinc has also returned to a level that,
according to many market participants,
reflects the fundamental situation better
than the extremely high prices of recent
months. Zinc was listed on the LME at
US$ 3 475 per tonne and the LME
stocks were around 79 900 tonnes.
Scrap prices also declined and old zinc
recently fetched only US$ 2 698.
NICKEL
Nickel has also returned to calmer
waters. The metal is now trading at
around US$ 24 250 per tonne in
London, which is about the same as it
was at the start of the year and far
short of the March surge. V2A scrap
recently fetched about US$ 1 686 dol-
lars in Europe, with V4A scrap trading
at US$ 2 530.
TIN
Falling prices on the tin market were
also noticeable. A few months after
prices above US$ 44 000 per tonne,
the metal is currently trading at
around US$ $26 700 on the LME.
