ALUMINIUM
High grade was last listed at US$ 2
388.50 per tonne on the London
Metal Exchange, and alloy at US$ 2
007. Stocks in the warehouses of the
LME were 571 400 tonnes of high
grade and, unchanged, 1 920 tonnes
of alloy. Alloys in Europe fetch up to
US$ 3 760 for 226, US$ 3 850 for 231
and US$ 3 950 for 233.
On a dollar basis, scrap prices have
been noticeably higher than recently.
However, the relatively high value of the
US dollar against the Euro also plays a
role. In Euros, scrap remained more
moderate for the European market.
Extrusions scrap sold for approximate-
ly US$ 2 530 while mixed cast scrap
with iron attachments sold for approx-
imately US$ 1 804. Mixed turnings
retailed for US$ 1 177.
COPPER
The red metal failed to break through
the US$ 9 000 per tonne mark in
recent weeks and was last listed on
the LME at US$ 8 826. The scrap busi-
ness continues to be rather sluggish.
In Europe, sales are proving particu-
larly difficult because the processors
apparently have sufficient stocks.
Bright wire scrap recently fetched up
to US$ 8 730. Chopped wire scrap
fetched US$ 8 870 in the first grade
and US$ 8 460 in the second grade.
Heavy scrap cost US$ 8 020 and brass
scrap US$ 5 226.
LEAD
Prices have risen slightly. Lead was
quoted on the LME at US$ 2 165 per
tonne and LME stocks were 32 200
tonnes. Around US$ 2 600 was paid
off the exchange for new soft. Some
soft scrap prices exceeded US$ 2 000.
NICKEL
The market remained essentially
unchanged, although prices increased
slightly overall. The metal was quoted
on the LME at US$ 24 496 per
tonne, and warehouse stocks were at
41 124 tonnes. V2A scrap sold for
US$ 1 606 and V4A scrap sold for
US$ 2 900.
ZINC
Zinc has lost a bit compared to the
last market report, with the LME quot-
ing at US$ 2 744.50 per tonne. The
lower prices apparently motivated
some buyers to stock up, which made
trading a little livelier. LME stocks
were last at 53 500 tonnes, so they
have increased significantly. Old zinc
scrap lately sold for US$ 2 332.
