acquired metals recycling manage-
ment services and solutions provider
ScrapSource in March.
Meanwhile, Kansas metal specialist
Allmetal Recycling has bought Heavy
Metal Recyclers, a metal and demoli-
tion business, also from Kansas.
Wichita-based Allmetal now has 10
sites with further acquisition expect-
ed, according to the local Pratt
Tribune newspaper. The catchy name
of Heavy Metal Recyclers, which was
started 12 years ago, is being sub-
sumed into the Allmetal brand,
according to new owners Clint and
Kolby Cornejo.
CARBON NEUTRAL
Kuusakoski plans to invest EUR 25
million in a steel recycling plant in in
Finland that will operate 100% car-
bon neutral. It says the investment
responds to growing demand for
recycled metals in Finland and
Sweden, and it will increase the annu-
al recycling capacity of Kuusakoski by
150 000 tonnes, or 25%. The new
plant will be built in Veitsiluoto, Kemi
which has a port connection linking
sea freight to rail and road transport.

bring with it carbon free processing,
which will enable our customers to
further reduce their climate impact
throughout the value chain.’

World crude steel production for the
63 countries reporting to the World
Steel Association (worldsteel) was
165.1 million tonnes (Mt) in March
2023, a 1.7% increase compared to
March 2022. The same report a
month before said the total was
142.4 Mt in February 2023, 1.0%
down on February 2022.
Of the leading countries, China pro-
duced 95.7 Mt in March 2023, up
6.9% on March 2022. India’s total was
11.4 Mt (+2.7%); Japan 7.5 Mt
(-5.9%). The United States produced
6.7 Mt (-2.1%) while Russia is estimat-
ed to have produced 6.6 Mt (+0.4%);
South Korea 5.8 Mt (+1.9%);
Germany is estimated at 3.3 Mt
(-0.5%); Brazil 2.7 Mt (-8.7%); Turkey
2.7 Mt (-18.6%) and Italy 2.2 Mt
(+.7%)
