SUNNY SIDE UP FOR PVC
RECYCLERS
Manufacturing window profiles with
70% recycled PVC – rather than all-
new PVC – delivers energy savings of
up to 50%. That’s one of the reasons
the European recycling sector man-
aged to process almost five million
tonnes of PVC since 2000.
MINING THE E-SCRAP MOUNTAIN
The consumer electronics market worldwide is
worth EUR 300 billion annually and is growing
fast. The good news is that the resultant surge
in e-scrap is now being accompanied by inno-
vative recycling technologies and projects.
COVER STORY:
RECYCLING IN THE BIG APPLE
In a new series of occasional articles,
Recycling International highlights the
best (and worst) practices in urban
mining from the world’s megacities,
starting off in New York. New York
City’s residential recycling rate of 18%
is far below that achieved by those US
cities set on ambitious goals.

TRANSFORMING DUSTY
CARPETS INTO PURE YARN
French multinational Tarkett recently
revealed a new way to recycle carpets
at its facility in Waalwijk, the
Netherlands. The company is now able
to separate the two principal compo-
nents of carpet tiles while retaining
more than 95% yarn purity.
