China’s production for August was 87.3
million tonnes, a 9.3% increase, and
82.8 million tonnes in September,
down month-on-month but a year-on-
year increase of 2.2%. Japan produced
8.1 million tonnes of crude steel in
August, a year-on-year decrease of
7.8%, and 8.0 million tonnes in
September, down 4.5% on September
2018. South Korea’s production was
5.9 million tonnes in August, down
2.6% year-on-year, and 5.7 million
tonnes in September, down 2.7% year-
on-year.
In the EU, German output was 3.3 mil-
lion tonnes in August, up 0.8% on
August 2018, and 3.4 million tonnes in
September, down 4.0% on the same
month a year earlier. Italy produced 0.9
million tonnes in August, down 26.7%
on August 2018, and 2.2 million tonnes
in September, up 1.1% on September
2018. French output was 1.1 million
tonnes in August, an increase of 11.2%
compared to August 2018, and 1.2 mil-
lion tonnes in September but that total
was 10.2% down year-on-year. Spain
produced 1.1 million tonnes of crude
steel in August, down 4.6% on August
