recycling strategy
By the year 2020, aluminium producer Hydro aims to
have more than doubled its post-consumer scrap recy-
cling volumes. However, the company underlines that
recycled aluminium alone will not satisfy light metal
demand in the long term.

The European Commission launched its long-awaited
Circular Economy package in early December amid much
fanfare. But what does the recycling industry think of it?

e automotive and beverage can industries in particular are looking increas-
ingly to in-house and closed-loop scrap, it emerged during Metal Bulletin’s
23rd Recycled Aluminium Conference held recently in the Spanish capital
Madrid. But closed-loop systems are not universally regarded as the only
way, or even the desirable way, forward.

recyclable and biodegradable polymer. Researchers hope
that this discovery will pave the way to ‘truly sustainable,
petroleum-free plastics’.
