IFAT 2005 – 14th international trade fair for the environment, waste water & waste disposal, sewage,
refuse & recycling
Hailed as the world’s leading trade fair for the
environment and waste disposal, IFAT 2005 will
occupy an estimated 165 000 square metres of
exhibition space at the New Munich Trade Fair
Centre in Germany. Staged every three years
and expecting its largest-ever attendance in
2005, the event covers a broad range of topics in-
cluding recycling, composting, thermal recovery
from refuse, site decontamination, environmen-
tal management and materials analysis.
Exhibitiors at IFAT 2005 will include suppli-
ers of turn-key mechanical-biological waste
treatment plants, as well as manufacturers of
the individual system components such as crush-
ers, conveyors, separators, sifters and air purifi-
cation equipment. The previous IFAT event in
2002 attracted 2042 exhibitors from 39 countries
as well as 97 245 trade visitors from 121 nations.
According to organisers, this year’s exhibition
will provide a showcase for: innovative environ-
mental solutions; state-of-the-art technology; and
the broad range of professional services available
in the area of refuse management and recycling.
A conference and symposium programme will
be staged close to the main hub of the exhibition.
Highlights are scheduled to include a special focus
on Japan on April 25, while China Day on April 26
will be designed to reflect the fact that environ-
mental matters are gaining importance in this
vast market. The event will comprise reports on
environmental policy developments in China and
the different needs of various regions within the
country. The programme will feature: a survey of
important organisations for those companies wish-
ing to enter the Chinese market; the potential of
Chinese colleges and universities as co-operation
partners for small and medium-sized enterprises;
and experiences of medium-sized German enter-
prises on broaching the Chinese market. As well as
a preview of IFAT China 2006, the event will also
tackle the opportunities/risks associated with
breaking into the Chinese market.
