Staples sets lofty recycling goal

United States – Office products giant Staples is to launch an online initiative for the collection and recycling of ink and toner as part of its ‘In store Staples Rewards’ programme.

This move enables Staples Rewards members to send in empty ink and toner cartridges for recycling by using a pre-paid shipping label, receiving in return US$ 2 in Staples Rewards for each one.

Since 2005, Staples has recycled 350 million ink and toner cartridges; the company now recycles around 60 million per year. In addition, the business has also recycled 182 million pounds of plastics and metals. Staples’ goal for 2020 is to recycle ‘at least’ 40 million pounds of used electronics on an annual basis.
