China – Having recently struck a deal with Insurance Auto Auctions Inc. (IAA) of the USA, Chen Jia has been named as the first company ever to receive recycling permits from the Chinese government to import salvage vehicles.
Until recently, Chinese law prohibited salvage vehicle imports into mainland China from the USA but this particular project has the full support of the government’s environmental protection authorities.
‘This agreement helps us achieve our growth strategy by expanding our global buyer base in a region with a fast-growing need for scrap metal,’ comments Tom O’Brien, IAA’s CEO. ‘Initial purchases at our locations along the West Coast have already created increased competition.’
He expects to expand buying throughout the USA.Gu Long Sheng, President at Chen Jai’s mother company Jiangsu Chenlong Resource Recycling Development, attributes this agreement to IAA ‘being so dedicated to seeing scrap vehicles legally enter the Chinese market’.
