BMR president Salam Sharif: ‘Signs of recovery’

Dubai – The scrap industry ‘is not without challenges, but definitely with signs of recovery’, stressed Salam Sharif of Sharif Metals, president of the Bureau of Middle East Recycling, at its latest conference. He called on the broad recycling industries ‘to work closer together and face the challenges in order to overcome times of hardship’.

More than 450 recycling professionals and traders from around the world gathered at the Atlantis The Palm hotels in Dubai in late February. Regional and international industry leaders shared their insights through presentations tackling the latest developments relating to the global markets and environmental issues facing the recycling industry.

Sharif also stressed the pivotal role of recycling in helping combat the alarming threat of global warming. The event was attended by, among others, representatives from UAE-based environmental organisations as well as industry bodies like the Bureau of International Recycling, the US Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries and the Metal Recycling Association of India.
