First fridge recycling steps in Serbia

Serbia – According to Germany-based recycling equipment manufacturer MeWa, around 800 refrigerators or 80 tonnes of electronic scrap will be recycled each day at its newest installation. Representing Serbia’€™s first plant for processing refrigerator and electronic scrap, the facility at NiÅ¡ has been under test for the last two months.

MeWa collaborated on the new venture with Jugo-Impex Group which owns Serbia-based e-waste recycling company E-Reziklaza. Although the company has its roots in the sale and distribution of refrigerators, its focus has shifted to recycling and dismantling during the last 10 years.

Jugo-Impex’€™s CEO Ninoslav Milenković comments: ‘€˜In Serbia, a law was passed regulating the disposal of refrigerators and electronic devices in accordance with the WEEE Directive of the European Union. To be able to implement this, we have searched for the best possible technology and have found a strong partner in MeWa.’€™
