Partners launch textile recycling first in France

The first industrial-scale automated facility for sorting and recycling of textiles in France has been inaugurated, the result of a partnership between recycler company Nouvelles Fibres Textiles, sorting specialist Pellenc ST and technology group Andritz.

The sorting line at the Nouvelles Fibres Textiles site in Amplepuis will process textile waste to produce recycled fibres for the spinning, non-wovens, and composites industries. It also allows customer trials and projects, and the R&D activities of the partners.

Capable of automatically sorting garments by composition and colour, the new line also removes parts such as buttons and zippers to prepare the material for further processing in an Andritz tearing machine.

Second plant

Eric Boel, general manager, Nouvelles Fibres Textiles, says the opening of the line is a milestone in his company’s efforts to turn textile waste into resources. ‘We are already laying the foundations for a second material preparation plant with a capacity to process 25 000 tonnes of post-consumer textiles,’ he adds.

Alexandre Butte, general manager, Andritz Laroche is proud to be part of the sustainable transformation. ‘With our technologies and our close partnership with Nouvelles Fibres Textiles and Pellenc ST, Andritz is making a significant contribution to a circular economy for textiles.’
