India – In order to reduce its freight costs and carbon footprint, prominent India-based electronics recycler Attero Recycling has decided to set up a facility in Bangalore which will be capable of segregating and dismantling 3000 tonnes of e-waste on an annual basis.
The company’s CEO Nitin Gupta explains: ‘The components that need further processing and recovery of precious metals – gold, silver, copper and others – will be taken to our Roorkee facility. The investment will be done in two phases and the total outlay will be around US$ 1 million.’
Attero processed around 1000 tonnes last year and the volume is expected to approach 10 000 tonnes in the current year. The company’s US$ 9 million facility at Roorkee in Uttarakhand has the capacity to process 36 000 tonnes of e-waste per year. The recycling process consists of disassembly, mechanical separation of materials and metallurgical treatment.
