Trade barriers debate at upcoming BIR Convention

Global – The BIR World Recycling Convention, to be held in the Polish capital Warsaw later this month, will address the growing trend towards steel scrap trade barriers in the EU and beyond.

Two guest speakers will give their views: Dr Veysel Yayan, secretary general of the Turkish Steel Producers Association which represents 98% of the country’s crude steel production, will comment on international steel trade trends with a special focus on recent developments in Europe; and Marcel Genet, founder and manager of the Laplace Conseil consulting firm which specialises in strategic and operational management in the metal and mineral industries, will assess the implications of the EU Commission’s Steel Action Plan which proposes a series of measures that aim to shore up the EU steel industry’s long-term competitiveness.
